Czech Drumming Carol (The Little Drummer Boy)

$9.99

Jarrod Radnich’s Virtuosic Christmas: Piano Solo Arrangements Like Never Before is sure to delight all of those who have looked for beautiful, lush, and uplifting concert-worthy piano solo arrangements of Christmas holiday favorites!

Patterned after the widely-popular Little Drummer Boy (Carol of the Drums) transcribed by Katherine Davis in 1941, this new arrangement actually returns the listener to the more traditional Czech musical themes and grand scales as were found in the 13th Century when King Wenceslas II organized the first major European musical event and included music believed to be the origin of this carol’s melody. That event was to draw the attention of all of Europe and was the predecessor to what we now, seven-hundred years later, call the competitions of the Prague Spring Festival. This arrangement returns to its origins and rightfully places its emphasis on percussion and rhythm.

This is one of my favourites. Why? Quiet introduction, then going into an expressive virtuosic, but groovy style that stirs you while playing. Sure the piece will challenge you in a very demanding way. Nonetheless, there are only a few little parts that need a little longer to master, so you should spend your time on perfection. Nearly no virtuosic runs or jumps. The melody consists of groups of triplets most time. The end is literally perfect (typical Radnich arrangement).

One of Jarrod Radnich's best arrangements, I spend lots of time and finally I can play this great song.

I've been taking lessons for a little less that 10 years, and this arrangement is what I like. It isn't easy, and it sure will take a lot of work, but for all who are looking for a good Christmas challenge, this is it (just make sure to start at least several months before Christmas).

Jarrod never stops impressing with his arrangements, and this one is no exception. I just hope I will be able someday to play this song.
